Ray's Special has an intense garlic flavour. The paper is creamy white with shades of brown and purple. The cloves are medium to large size in each bulb, with 4-6 cloves per bulb. Porcelains have great storage qualities due to the extra thick skin on the cloves (this also makes them harder to peel ). This porcelain that has done very well for us in the gulf islands, and is consistently one variety that grows lots of extra large size bulbs.
Medium size bulbs are 1.75"-2"; 10-14 bulbs/lb.
Large size bulbs are 2"-2.5"; 6-10 bulbs/lb. - this is the ideal size for planting
Extra Large size bulbs are 2.5"-3.5"; 4-6 bulbs/lb.
